about us

Human Terrains works in partnership with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people or businesses, to promote community development, resilience and cultural awareness. The aim is to balance development priorities with cultural heritage ecosystems.

In addition, we conduct independent cultural heritage surveys of key places with the appropriate Aboriginal peoples. We then work collaboratively to analyse results and promote authentic engagement between all parties.

Australian Aboriginal heritage, environmental knowledge and social networks extend beyond 60,000 years. During this time there has been immense climate variation, adaptation and disruption.

This rich cultural heritage of 'disruption' adaptation, ideology and meaning is historically tied to the greater Asia Pacific region and to that of European colonisation.

Aboriginal Australians are the only group in the world that can prove a continuous, unbroken, physical and spiritual connection within the entire Australian cultural landscape, above and below ground.

Both an island and a continent, Australia has proven to be an amazing experimental resource for its earliest natural explorers - the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
